Baillie And The Boys “I Can’t Turn The Tide” Single Of The Day
Greetings from Asheville, where there’s always great music to be found. Today’s Single Of The Day comes from the early part of 1990. Kathie Baillie and Michael Bonagura were a wife and husband team from New Jersey, who, along with Alan LaBoeuf, formed a trio that brought a different sound to country music during the latter 1980’s. Bonagura and LaBoeuf had worked together in New Jersey, then after Michael’s marriage to Kathie Baillie, they began working as a trio, eventually moving to Nashville. Their first single, “Oh Heart”, would break through into the top ten, during the Summer of 1987, starting a string of ten Country 40 appearances. However, by the time today’s featured single was released, Baillie And The Boys were technically “Boy”, as Alan LaBoeuf had left (he would return in 1998). “I Can’t Turn The Tide” became their fifth consecutive top ten single, peaking at nine, in early 1990. A slow ballad, it shows what I think was the real strength of Kathie Baillie’s vocals, really excelling when performing a song that calls on much emotion, something her singing is full of.
Saving vinyl, one record at a time.
