Classic Album Review-Johnny Cash “Blood, Sweat, And Tears”

It's a popular misconception that the Beatles made the first concept album. In all actuality, concept albums, where all of the songs are related in some way, were being made before anyone even knew of the Fab Four. For instance, a perfect example is Johnny Cash's “Blood, Sweat, And Tears”, from 1963, an album full of songs that cover life experiences that involve blood, sweat, and tears.

Jack Greene

Who was the CMA's first Male Vocalist of the Year? Think back to 1967; Buck Owens? Johnny Cash? Eddy Arnold? All worthy choices, but all wrong. The CMA's first Male Vocalist award went to Jack Greene.

Vintage Promotional Items

Do you remember when companies had promotional items? Gas stations, radio stations, seed corn companies are just some of those who were known for this. Some were free; others were sold inexpensively; a few things were even used as an incentive to buy a particular product. For instance, buying a John Deere tractor around 1980, resulted in sweatshirts for the whole family and sweat pants for me.

Carl Smith Has Died

Another legend is gone from country music. Carl Smith, one of the top hit-makers of the 1950's, died at the age of 82. Apparently, no information regarding his death has been released, but it's reported that he passed away on Saturday.

Dixie Chicks . . . More Controversy, or not?

What's up with one of country music's most controversial acts? Over the past couple of days, stories have come out about new music being recorded by the Dixie Chicks, but with only the Erwin sisters; no Natalie Maines.

Creativity…Is It Still Alive?

Did you see CBS' Sunday Morning program, this past week? The focus of the program was creativity, whether or not it is still prevalent in today's society. On the show, they featured several stories covering both industry and the arts. Then, a couple of nights ago, our local PBS station, ran programs about the lives and careers of two of the best and creatively original R & B singers, ever; Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye.
