This Week In History – 1985
This, in many ways, is so hard for me to believe, but twenty-four years ago, this week, I had just started college at Vincennes University. The old adage is true, “Time flies.” Let's celebrate this not-so-momentous occasion, by looking back at the last week of August, the 25th through the 31st, 1985.

Remember Freddie Hart
To call Freddie Hart an overnight success would be a very inaccurate statement. His career was anything but. Signed to Capitol in the early 1950's, he didn't score his first number one hit until 1971, with “Easy Lovin'”. In between was a string of flops, minor hits, and near misses. What followed was a four year string of top five hits.

Classic Album Review – Eddy Arnold “My World”
From 1965, comes this gem of an album from the legendary Eddy Arnold. My World contains two of Arnold's biggest hits, “What's He Doing In My World” and “Make The World Go Away”. Both songs were number one country hits, while “Make The World Go Away” also reached the top ten on the pop charts.

Remember Norma Jean
Just a few days ago, my wife and I visited a nearby thrift shop, and I walked away with fifteen albums! All from the late1960's to mid 1970's, practically in mint condition, and for a buck a piece. Dean Martin, Jack Greene, Jeannie Seely, Kenny Rogers, Roy Clark, and Norma Jean, among others. The Norma Jean album is her first album from 1964, titled “Let's Go All The Way”.

Country Legend, Ray Price
Did Ray Price save country music? Some would say so. Ray's 1956 monster hit, “Crazy Arms”, came at a time when country music was in an upheaval, caused by the coming of rock and roll.

Remembering Eddy Arnold
What a voice. That is running through my mind as I put this post together, while listening to the album, “My World”, by the legendary Eddy Arnold. I've probably had this platter on the turntable hundreds of times (and the disc is starting to sound like it, by the way), and it still is one of my favorite albums of all time.

Starting with this posting, I am going to give some background, history, other bits of information and some personal opinion about the artists who have built country music. Look for 3 to 5 postings a week.
